One of the hardest challenges I will face abroad is missing my family. I’m constantly passing by shops, restaurants and landmarks that make me think of different family members, but the person on my mind the most has been my sister, Talia. She’s on her way to college soon (fingers crossed she gets in to the ones she wants), and two days after I fly home she’ll be turning 18. It’s a huge step for her and I remember being in that stage of my life, and it was one of the most exciting and terrifying times. I promised her I would bring her a birthday present from every country I visit, and on my way home from physical therapy this morning I found the first one. It brings me so much joy to be on the lookout for presents for her; I feel like her angel floating around trying to make her happy from 5,000 miles away, and suddenly that distance doesn’t feel so far. She is so talented at what she does and makes everyone around her feel special, and I hope to bring her as much joy on her birthday as she brings to those in her life daily. Love and miss you, Tally. I’ll always try to be your guardian angel.
